IVP's Legal Work
IVP doesn't just advocate for reform. We write it into law and fight for it in the courtroom. Two tracks, one mission: every voter deserves an equally meaningful vote at every stage of the public election process.
The state created the problem. We created the solution.
The state created a conflict between party rights and voter rights the moment it decided to run partisan primaries with public funds. Parties have a right to associate — but voters have a right to participate. When the government administers the election, it cannot let one right override the other without providing a remedy.
IVP's two tracks address that conflict directly. Through authored initiatives, we write legislation that resolves it at the ballot box. Through litigation, we assert that courts cannot allow party rights to exclude voters from the most meaningful stage of the public election process.
Each case builds on the last. Every precedent we set makes the next reform harder to challenge and easier to replicate in other states.
Author Legislation
Draft reform with constitutional backing from day one
Pass It
Build coalitions, pass reform, win at the ballot
Defend It
When opponents sue, we're ready — and we win
Expand the Precedent
Each victory creates legal groundwork for the next state
Authored Initiatives
IVP doesn't just advocate for reform — we write the actual legislation. From California's Proposition 14 to San Diego's Measure K, our authored initiatives have reshaped how millions of voters participate in elections.
In the Courtroom
When partisan interests challenge voter rights, IVP fights back. Our goal is to establish a legal precedent that every voter, regardless of political party, has an equally meaningful right to vote at every stage of the public election process.
